The exhibition Duplices is already installed in the spaces of Art Sharing Roma and presents the dialogue between Agnese Fantozzi’s self‑portraits and Bruno Melappioni’s wire sculptures. For RAW for Peace we propose a specific reading, focused on how the works construct a shared space between two practices and two modes of representation.
Fantozzi’s work introduces a first form of duplication: the self‑portrait as a split of body and role, in which the artist is simultaneously subject and operator of the image. Melappioni’s sculpture intervenes on this structure by adding a second level, not as a simple overlay but as a translation of the figure into another grammar. The iron does not replicate the photograph: it isolates directions, tensions, postures, producing a line that does not describe but interprets.
The guided tour One Space for Two highlights this passage from one language to another and the way the presence of the public introduces a third variable. The gaze alters relations and distances, generates new shadows, and shifts the perception of the figure and its double. The work is never fixed: it changes with the light, with movement, with the position of the viewer.
In this process one recognises a form of coexistence that does not seek synthesis or forced harmonies. The two practices maintain their autonomy while sharing the same visual field, accepting the presence of the other as part of the result. It is a relation based on co‑presence rather than fusion. For RAW for Peace this reading becomes central: the possibility of occupying the same space without reducing differences, allowing those differences to generate new perceptual possibilities.
The 6:30 pm tour therefore proposes a critical path that does not add content to the exhibition but brings out an aspect already present: the construction of a common space through the encounter between two visions and their multiplication in the viewer’s gaze. Guided tour with the curator, in Italian.
