THE PRIMORDIAL MOTHER:A RITUAL OF PEACE

A collective modeling action on a work by Lavinia Palma: a ritual of regeneration dedicated to the felled pines of San Lorenzo. Through clay and the texture of tree remains, we will create a choral work of care and peace.

In relation to the theme of Peace, my work connects to the archaic imaginary of the Great Mother: a cyclic, non-violent condition, bringer of care and protection. Peace is understood as a primary condition.
The work, created by me, is a Tree-Woman that sinks its roots into the deep earth and carries with it a "fertile wound." This opening recalls a real event in my neighborhood — the fall and felling of the pine trees — but transforms the trauma into a crack, a grotto, and a cave: natural manifestations of the maternal womb.
As in the ancient pithoi (the oval Neolithic vessels that symbolized the Goddess's womb), the cavity in the trunk is not a void of death, but a space of waiting. Burial in the womb is analogous to the seed planted in the ground: a necessary ritual so that new life may emerge from the old.
Through a collective action, I invite people to imprint the texture of the remains of those pines into clay. I will then integrate these fragments into the work, moving from the inside of the wound outwards in a generative motion. Just as the egg was offered in ancient tombs to stimulate regeneration, every imprint becomes an act of care within the Mother's womb. Together, we will transform the wound into a space of Peace
