The "Humans" cycle (2011–2026) is my personal reinterpretation of the historic theme of the "Bathers," in which painting, as always, focuses on the observation of light rather than the description of the image. Perspective coordinates give way so that the naked bodies alone, in their simple coexistence, reveal the dynamic balance of their relationships. I use the nude in its ancient sense, as the original and universal measure and limit of the human form, with an intention opposed to exhibitionism and individual characterization, to highlight the vulnerability and community of people starting from their common source, water.
"The Boxers" (2023) is a painting from 2023. Thanks also to the subtitle, which reads: "They shall no longer train for war..." (Isaiah 2:4 - an allusion to the messianic era), the theme of peace is explicit here. The combat between the male figures, a kind of dance for two, is counterpointed by the isolation of the female figure who leaves the scene with her eyes closed.
The usual gaze, sympathetic to one side, is no longer useful; a conversion is needed: closing those eyes to reopen them to the positive nature of conflict, as a precious opportunity for harmony. And, through this new vision, recompose what is dispersed, implementing a creative mediation akin to the generative and transformative capacity of gestation.
